Sydney

Sydney is the capital of the state of New South Wales (not Australia!) and its name comes from Lord Sydney who was the British Minister of the Interior at the time of its settlement in 1788. Sydney’s geographic situation around Port Jackson Bay makes it undoubtedly one of the most beautiful capital cities in the world.

Like Melbourne, Sydney is also a cosmopolitan and multicultural city. It is a city in which sport plays an important part of daily life; water sports, cricket, Australian Rules football, rugby and tennis are some of the sports you’ll most likely see and have the chance to play. The beaches of Bondi and Manly are some of the most popular city beaches for surfing lovers and the Sydney Cricket Ground and Sydney Football Stadium is where some of the most important cricket and Australian Rules football test games are held.

Sydney’s climate is very pleasant with average temperatures in summer of 23°C and 13°C in winter.
